Happy Birthday Kirst.
Alex finally walking again, he can't really bend it but he is putting weight on it.
Been gardening all weekend. Got shrubs and plants in, cut borders and laid mulch.
Had to check with Mum and Dad yesterday that they were ok, due to the earthquake in Kent! All was well!

Thursday 26th April
Poor Alex still cant walk or bend his leg. Took him back to the doctor, who referred him to another orthapedic doctor tomorrow, but by the time we got home they had already rang and said we couldn't go cos of a mix up with our insurance! Amazing!! Never mind if a child is in pain, this country sucks for insurance, whether you're a child or not!!
It was a LONG doctor's visit! Ethan had a complete physical, and a shot. By that I mean a vaccination, not a tequila slammer!
Jord had a complete physical and Alex, a physical, a blood test and his leg checked and
all three boys needed a 'three point check' - hearing, sight, and dental check, for school. Three hours later we emerged into the daylight!
But now we have found out there was a cock up with the insurance, the bill should be fun!
Friends and family, please start a trust fund- or we may have to sell the house! And never knock the National Health Service again !!
Had the landscaper back around today, got some problems with the garden. Hopefully they are coming around tomorrow to sort it.
Oh and bugger, left my chick flick library book at the hospital emergency room on Monday! checked today= $30.00!!!! might buy them a brand new one for $14.99 from Wal-Mart!!

A day out at A and E!
Sadly by Monday morning Alex's knee was no better, so after a day at A and E, he has now aquired a new leg brace and a set of matching crutches! No fracture or break, just a bit of a chipped kneecap and a humungeous bruise!! He was incredibly brave though, all day! Mr. Smith managed to get home on an earlier flight . Also sadly I missed Jord and Eth's sports day, or 'Field Day', but as you can imagine the Smith boys did great!!!
Sunday - Our first Accident!
Sunday morning Mr. Smith up and left for D.C. for work, just for one night.
The boys and I went shopping and then went to Jan and Jez's for a get together to meet up with Roy, from Digby!- who is here for a week to check out the place before his wife, Alison, and family move over for a few years in June, I think.
Gail and TJ were there with their children which cheered Alex up cos TJ is his soccer coach and his son James is on his team. Sue and Dave and the girls, Mark, Andy, and others. I knew Mark from Digby but I didnt know all the others there. It is nice to spend time with loads of Brits! (That's not to say all the American people I have met haven't been lovely, cos they have!)
It was nice to see Roy again, and Alison was part of our 'Wives Trip to Amsterdam'! I have to find 'THE' photo. Those of you on the trip know which one I mean!!
It wasn't long though before disaster struck!
Alex flew off the trampoline in their back garden, and hit the ground, smashing his kneecap on a tree stump! Lots of fuss, ice packs and toe wriggling later I got him home and put him to bed. Thank you everyone- Roy, Jan, Jez, Dave, Sophie, TJ, Gail, and Sue-who offered to leave the party and come to the hospital with me! You all helped look after Al so well.

Happy hour!
After school Thursday we went to the library. The boys love it! We had a snack in the cafe then hit the computers and the books. Pizza on the way home, then got ready for the last day of exams for the boys. Thank goodness!
Friday - can't wait until 5 o clock! It's happy hour again!!! I met Mary at the Pizza Joint again, and we hung with her friends till they left, then Mary and I sat at the bar putting the worlds to rights, having a few ciders. Sorry, detox is ok for the week, but come on! it's Friday night!!
Slight headache Saturday! Must be something I ate!!
Finally today our furniture arrived from Rooms-To-Go. I had to move the old couch into the garage , but had a bit of trouble doing it alone, Mr.Smith was out recycling, so I dragged our neighbour Nicholas over and then two more new neighbours, moving in saw us struggling and came to help. It really is a very friendly neighbourhood.

Big Hair Day!
Well Tuesday came and went without much excitement. Having a two week detox with Kirst. Is it really only day two!?!
Wednesday morning - got to go and register as a new patient with the doctor. An hour and half later!!! Still least it's done.
I had booked myself my first hair cut in America, on the recommendation of Diane, the Scots lady I see at school. With explicit instructions on making a booking first and only going to one girl - off I went.
One hell of a big hair do later, back I came. It wasn't a bad cut and blow dry, it was just big. I know I love Dolly, but I don't want to look like her. I mean this hair was seriously big. As big as Godzilla big! In fact while the Giant Lizard was rampaging through Tokyo and the people needed somewhere to hide, they could have hidden in my hair! The whole nation!! Needless to say there are no photos!
How much will it cost for me to fly Danny over to do my hair!!
The boys brought their report cards home. All A's B's and one C. One that is, between all three of them! They are great. It was a good day for a treat so what better day for Jen's Cadburys Chocolate to arrive from England? I didn't expect so much, but Thank You very much Jen and Martin! You are very naughty but very kind! The boys are in heaven!

Monday 16th April
Bit of a boring morning today, just Monday morning housework and a bit of exercise on my stepper.
I had a phone from Augusta Waste Disposal, our dustmen, or 'garbage disposal contractors'. We have to hire private companies, it's not something the city council provide. Apparently I had committed the unearthly sin, or actually 3 sins! of ...
1) putting the dustbin next to the mailbox ......not leaving it free of any obstruction for 3 feet either side!
2) not putting the opening facing the street ............and............
3) shock! horror! having some loose packing 'peanuts' inside...not bagged up. Some fell on the ground!
Not only did I have a phone message about this but also a letter left by the dustman...or garbage disposal contractor!!!
The message said if I had any questions I could call.
I was just about to call the silly old bat and ask if she had a life and had nothing better to do........................when I saw on the news about the shootings at Virginia Tech. What a terrible horrific tragedy. What a waste of brilliant and innocent young lives. The families of those injured and killed must of just experienced the worst day of their lives. All this in a country that STILL won't learn from previous tragedies and STILL has the highest amount of privately owned guns than anywhere else in the world. President Bush had an adviser on immediately yesterday. Saying that the President still believed in the right to bear arms, but not breaking the law. Good then, glad we got that clear. I didn't make that phone call, life is truthfully too dam short.....

Quick catch up for the week!
I don't know if this last week has been so busy I haven't had time to write my blog.......or so boring I have had nothing to say!!
The boys went back to school after their Spring Break. They seem to enjoy it still, I don't have any problems in the morning and after school they still say their days were brilliant or great.
I seem to spend my days doing housework and ....can I even bring myself to say it.............SHOPPING!!!!! I hate shopping! I'm one of those odd women that get bored within ten minutes of being in a store!
I must of been really bad in a former life, and this is my punishment. Whereas once my hands were filled with glasses of wine and my lip gloss, now they are permanently attached to a shopping trolley...sorry - cart!
The first part of the week tripped past, nothing very exciting there!
On Thursday we had our neighbour over for dinner cos his wife was away. Nicholas and Christina are lovely. They have a little 18 month old called Thomas. Nicholas is from Columbia and has promised to cook us some Columbian food!
Afterwards, we went for an orientation evening at the middle school, where Alex will start in August. It's huge. Some 2500 children!! But like everything else he seems to be taking it in his stride!
Friday morning I helped out in Jordan's class at school, with their 'math olympics'. The boys love it when I am at school with them.
Friday evening we went to an open air movie in the park. It was free, we just took our chairs along. Free movie, free popcorn, free drinks, free ices, free hot dogs!???
Should of known the god squad were involved! It was a very pleasant evening though to be honest. And we only had to get up raise our hands and turn around to praise our Jesus a few times!! It was all very modern and funky. Apparently this church is "casual and comtemporary!" whatever that means!
Saturday Mr. Smith took Alex to the mall to meet his friend, and did a bit of shopping! Unlike myself, Mr. Smith loves shopping!!! He will often pop out about 8 or 9 o clock at night to pick something up, or rather strangely just to look around at stuff!
Om Sunday, Jordan had a birthday party to go to at Fort Discovery, so we dropped him off and took Alex and Ethan to Downtown Augusta for lunch, where we found a little tapas bar called "Tap Tap Tapas and Tacos" and had lunch and a few glasses of wine. It was delicious!
After we picked Jordan up we went to the 'Fresh Market', a store with fresh organic food and some imported food. We found Marmite and........Cadburys chocolate fingers! That was it for British food. Bummer! Actually though, their fruit and veg and salad dressings, butcher and bakery looked wonderful. Got the boys some sausages for dinner, real sausages, not the fake "breakfast" ones they do here!
When we got home the boys decided to make Star Wars decorated easter eggs, which we had forgotten to do at Easter (Bad Mum!) and then got ready for bed. Their CRCTs start tomorrow. If they don't pass these tests, they can't move up a grade. This place is seriously test obsessed!!!!
As we haven't been here very long we have told them to just do their best, how they can reach Georgia standards of testing when they have only been in school in Georgia for a few weeks is beyond me!!!
So maybe I had something to say about the week after all! That will teach me a lesson for not writing daily won't it? I think for my punishment I should go......................SHOPPING!!!!AAAHHH!

Easter Sunday
The Easter Bunny arrived this morning and bought the guys some cuddlies, which I'm very happy to say they STILL love. A bunny, a chick and a puppy. (your never too old for a cuddlie! Ask Nanny and Grandad about Jack, Hairy and Snowy)
They had some lovely gifts from their grandparents, it was a nice morning.
Spoke to Noelle and Ged and said we would roll eggs - but it wouldn't be the same, without "tricking" Ged and replacing his boiled egg for a raw one or a rubber one from "Wise Owl" in Sleaford, or getting Sophie to eat the eggs off of the grass.!
Miss you Soph, Mum's baby girl. We have your photo pride of place on the mantleplace ! Our home really isn't the same without you x x
Mary and Mike had kindly asked us all for Sunday dinner, but unfortunately I was feeling ill so Mr. Smith and the boys went. I rather pathetically laid in bed for the afternoon!
The boys and Mr. Smith came back raving about what a lovely meal they had had, how lovely the table looked all decorated for Easter etc. Thank you guys!! We are very lucky, that we have moved here from another country, but have friends here already to share occasions with!!

Went to Atlanta Zoo today. The baby panda was called Lei Man and was so cute! It was mainly what we had gone to see. It was two hours each way but the kids love their car dvd player so we didn't hear a thing from them!
It was cooler than here in Augusta, about 39 degrees, and the kids said they were freezing so we had to buywooly hats as soon as we got there.
Had a lovely surprise when we got home, our neighbours Christina, Nicholas and baby Thomas had baked us some lovely Easter Cup Cakes !
After dinner the boys made a card for Thomas and we put some Easter goodies in for him.
We are going to Mike and Mary's tomorrow for Easter dinner, after the bunny visits us!!!

Rest of the Break
Well, we have just been hanging out this week. Had a trip to the library and a bite to eat in the cafe. The boys love going to the library, they use the computers and take ages to pick books , and the little cafe does good coffee and sandwiches.
We went to Kohls and bought loads for the garden, all we need now is an actual bbq!
THURSDAY - had a call from Mike to say Mary and the girls are meeting for happy hour at five at "Pizza Joint" if i wanted to join them! If I wanted to!!!!!
Took Mary a birthday present, poor thing had been poorly on her birthday, and sat by myself having a lovely pint of strongbow, until the others came. Met Shelley again and later on Kathy arrived.
You know in the movies where a guy asks the barmaid what your drinking, and sends one over with the waitress, who says..."The gentleman at the bar wants to buy you a drink and sent this over" . It really happens!!! Only with me it wasn't exactly a sophisticated cocktail or a classy glass of wine. Just a bloody pint of Strongbow, hee hee. Kirsty will be so proud!
It was so nice sitting and chilling with the girls..................
Till Mr Smith turned up, with the kids in the bar to pick me up!!!

Mr Smith visits the Masters!!!!!!!
The Masters 2007 |
After a Monday evening phone call from Vic, Mr Smith decided to try and get into the Masters for the Tuesday afternoon practice session. According to Vic, who heard it from someone else, if you go down to the area around the gates, as people leave for the day, if you are very nice, some people will give up their badge for the remainder of the day. After about 20 minutes of asking people, Mr Smith found a party of four senior citizens who were leaving for the day and they kindly gave up a badge to him. To say Mr Smith was ecstatic would be an understatement. Three hours and a couple of hundred dollars in souvenirs later, Mr Smith returned home. Next year he is planning on actually paying for a ticket!

Spring Break- Day 1
Ah the joy of not having to jump out of bed to an alarm clock and get up for school!
Alex had some friends round, and I started exercising again, (feels quite good actually- don't tell anyone!)
Not so joyful- finding a brown recluse spider on the back door step. Eth was throwing shoes at it from a distance and then Alex sprayed it with the hornet spray. It died!
Now I don't want to be considered a baby, but that is now a count of 1 poisonous black widow spider out the front and now 1 poisonous brown recluse on the back door step! Hello???.....is it just me? or is this to be considered acceptable. I think not!!!
Just waiting for the deadly snakes and the gators and we will have a full house!
The thing about the snakes is that there are two almost identical here. One is deadly, the Coral snake, and one is harmless, the King snake! One has black, yellow and red stripes, and one has red, black and yellow stripes. You have to see how the stripes go and there is a rhyme - "black and yella, kill a fella, red and black, friend of Jack."
So if you see a snake with yellow rings next to black with no red in between, run! Then again, by the time you have studied the snake, remembered the rhyme and got your trainers on your probably dead anyway!!!
Cooked my first Sunday roast, on a Monday, since we got here. It was great, but without Aunt Bessie's company for dinner, I had to make roast spuds and Yorkshire puds from scratch. God- Live is just too short!!! But thanks to Carol for the pud recipe- needs a bit practice I think. but really, they weren't bad!!
Watched Happy Feet, well...until I fell asleep from boredom!

Life after the lizard
Bit of a boring day really. After the initial "delight" of finding a lizard in the bedroom.
Did some shopping on base, god it's weird to be back in a commissary! And by the time we got back after washing my baby... sorry my car, it was dinner time.
It's so nice to know we do not have to get up for school in the morning. YEAH , Spring Break!
Had a chat with Jen, cant think why Mart minds being woken up....it's only 3 am hee hee. Sorry Mart!
