Injection day.

Poor Al had his shots this morning. That's vaccinations to you lot, not tequila!!! And we found out Ethan needs one too! He is not happy! It is a right drama to get them all sorted. We have to take their shot records to a medical centre on the base at Fort Gordon to have the boys records transferred on to a State of Georgia medical form that the school will accept. Then they all have to have an eye, ear and dental check too.
Forgot to mention that Alex played soccer last night with a busted big toe that he did jumping into the pool!
I really will get photos on this blog soon. I think I will just put all the photos we have got so far and do another photo link.
Spoke on messenger to Lannie and Kirsty this morning. It's so nice to be able to chat.
went to look at cars. Thinking of a Tahoe maybe. It's hard to choose. I know I want an SUV but I don't know which. We will keep our van that Mr.Smith will take to work but I need something too, and of course I will get the new one!!!!!
After a salad from "Subway" went to the mall to start looking at appliances. The house comes with cooker, microwave and dishwasher but we need fridge, freezer and a washer and dryer.
I went to build-a-bear and made the kids from the Maple Leaf preschool a bear with a schoolbag and jeans and t-shirt, gave him a passport and put a voice message in it for them when they squeeze his paw telling them I miss them. I put the passport in so they could take the bear, who I called Maple, away with them if anyone went on holiday. Now just got to find a way to get the bloody thing in the post!!
Off to "Stevie B's", a pizza banquet, for dinner. It's one of those awful places where there are games that you buy tokens for, and the kids win tickets and swap them for crappy plastic toys. But the pizza is really good and kids eat for 99cents on a Wednesday. Wish me luck!!

Soccer Tuesday - 76 degrees

How proud am I of Alex?!
We spent the day playing tennis, basketball, while Mr Smith went to base, and then as it got hotter we went to the outdoor pool and the boys actually jumped in and swam! Personally I think the water was freezing! But kids will be kids!! After a while we changed and took Alex to try out for the local soccer team , Augusta Arsenal. We had to look for the under 11's and a coach called Patrick but instead found Kiam training the other 11's team. He was going to let Alex try out a training session with them to see how he got on. There are two under 11' teams but this was the top team. After training he not only wants to see Alex again for training on Thursday but wants to try and start him in a match this weekend!
I don't know if I would of been as brave as him, jumping right in with a new team and getting on with it.
Bad news for him is that he needs two vaccinations tomorrow in order to start school. A menningitis, I know I can't spell it!, and a tetanus. He is not happy.
Had to ring the doctor's surgery in Metheringham and ask them to fax out a copy of Ethans vaccinations as we seem to have lost his!And do you know what? They did it straight away!
After soccer we went to "Macaroni's Grill" for dinner. It was DELICIOUS! It's a kind of steak, pasta, chicken, salad type place.
Came home and rolled my fat belly into bed.Must stop eating! it's just so hard not to try every where!
Had email from Mary - Did I want to do happy hour with the girls on Thursday? of course I did!!! but it's also the day Mr. Smith's dad , Grandaddy, is arriving. Shouldn't be rude...........

Monday - Driving Miss Daisy

Finally got behind the wheel of the car. Not entirely my fault it took this long. Mr Smith just didn't put me on the insurance for the hire car. Which is fine by me- he drives and I just drink copious amounts of Pinot!
But it is also very boring and as no one walks anywhere here means I can't go out past the gate without him driving me, so it was a small sense of freedom. Independent chick is back in town!!
Except it's more like Driving Miss Daisy then Daisy Duke!!
The traffic where we are staying is very heavy and there is this weird lane in the middle of the road, called the suicide lane, er sorry..the turn lane. Anyone from either direction can get in it to turn left or right across the on coming traffic. All lanes!!!!
Heard from Lannie, and it looks like they are booked for the 10th July, can't wait. Caitlin will be 18 on the 13th July and wants to come and spend it with us! It is so lovely to have someone defo coming over to visit. Going to start looking at places to go and explore!
The boys and I played tennis and basketball in the morning, then I had to drive to 'Quizno's' for lunch , which is like 'Subway'. A little better if you are a meat eater cos their menu is very varied, although not as good as 'Firehouse Subs'. That was started by two fireman brothers who started a sub restaurant in the tradition of firemen always having good food in their firehouse. Or fire station as we would say.
After we took the boys to Putt Putt golf - Crazy golf for us - and the boys had a great time. It was very sad for me, it reminded me of our lovely weekend earlier this year with Mum and Dad at Centerparcs, when we played crazy golf on a lovely hot afternoon.
On the way back Mr. Smith stopped at "Outback Steak house" for a take out steak and fries, side salad, bread and a blooming onion. He was the only one who ate anything, the rest of us refused any more take out and came home for bowls of cereal etc. You can ring your order through, drive up and not even get out of your car. They walk to your car and take your money and then bring the order to your car!!!
So far here you can get food, and not just fast food, dry cleaning, gas, sorry petrol, all your banking and sex through a drive through window without leaving your car.
Sorry, did I say sex? Ha ha I wish!!
Came home, Mary rang and we made plans for the weekend for both our families to go out for a picnic and a walk around a historical house in South Carolina and it's grounds. Mr Smith's dad - hereby known as Grandaddy - is arriving Thursday for a visit so i think it will be a nice weekend.

Sunday- met up with friends!

Sunday - Yes! me! out with the girls. Mary, our best man's wife, called me last night and arranged to take me out for brunch and meet some of her friends and then all go the Y (YMCA) to sign up for the gym and exercise classes that hopefully we will go to, cos we will all push each other, or so the plan goes!!
Had a brill lunch. We went to "Panera" for brunch, which is where we went with Dennis while house hunting. The place has nice coffee, soup which they serve in bowls of baked bread, sandwiches and cakes. It hasn't stopped raining all day so im actually using an umbrella!
I met Kathy, she is so funny I almost couldn't eat my lunch! We laughed so much that people were looking at us from all directions!
We went to the Y to look around. It looks great but very busy! There is a gym, exercise classes, indoor and outdoor pool and loads of kids stuff!
While sitting there filling out forms Mary's other friends came along, Jessica and Rachael, twins, and their children and it really was nice to see groups of friends - Like I used to have with my girls back home- I felt a small ray of hope today!
Went out for a bit of sport's wear shopping and then got the boys and Mr. Smith, and fixed food at home.

Finally back on line!

In case you were wondering where I had gone our poor lap top stopped connecting to the internet. It's in the shop getting fixed- hopefully, so we have borrowed one from our friends. Where was I? oh yes Feb 20th.
Well, on Feb 21, last Wednesday, we drove up to the boys schools to get them registered and look around. Mr. Smith told us Alex would be in the 6th grade and would be in middle school. We went to the middle school first and it took them 45 mins to decide he was too young for that school and should be in elementary school (el-em-ent-ary school, yea sesame street fans. You know what im talking about! At least Kirsty will!) with his brothers. We drove next door to the elementary school - remember no one walks here- and I was happier to see a smaller school. Al wasn't happy. He wanted to start big school and get into the sports. In elementary school they don't even have a p.e. kit and change for p.e.
After a look round and finding out what classes they will be in, Eth 2nd grade, Jord 3rd grade and Al 5th grade, we drove to Moe's for lunch. Brill Mexican fast food.
Mimi decided to go home early. She will leave tomorrow instead of Sunday. Mr Smith went to video store and got "Air buddies" and "Pokeman something or other", 52,000 I think, for the boys to watch.

Thursday - Mimi left and we drove to Columbia, South Carolina to go to the Riverbanks Zoo. It was a lovely hot day. About 76 degrees. The zoo was great. The boys loved it and it was a great day for them. Stopped for dinner at Ruby Tuesday.

Friday - Mr. Smith went to try a trial run to work to see how long it would take him. Al went with him and Jord, Eth and I went to the gym and then the basketball courts. This afternoon we bought tennis rackets and balls and hit the tennis courts! Mr Smith went and got Chinese for tea. I will be glad to move out to the suburbs where all this take out food and restaurants are not going to be right on our doorstop. Bought "Flushed Away" for the kids, it's a very funny movie, and very British looking. Made me homesick!

Saturday - Got up late, went to Zaksby's for lunch - take out chicken and wings type restaurant, nice food - if you like chicken! - and found the local library where I could finally check email but it wouldnt let me write this blog. Our friend dropped off his lap top for us to use. We had stopped at the supermarket to pick up salad, bruschetta and taboule for dinner ,and eggs and bacon and nice bread for the boys Sunday breakfast. Texted the Cat! He is back in England for a visit with his family.

Tuesday 20th Feb

Is it only the 20th of Feb? I feel like I have been here forever!
Had a lovely phone call with Lannie this morning. It's hard to be away from everyone you love and I can't wait till Lannie, Nige, Caitlin and Megan visit. It gives me something to hang on to and look forward to.
Called the boys schools. Got to go visit them and register the boys. Alex can't wait!!
It looks like his school will have about 700 kids and the other boys school about 660. Bit of a difference from Tedder, where there were approx 100 at any time!
Jordie still ill, bless him. Tummy cramps getting worse.
Called Mum and Dad and left a message. I will call them later.

Monday - Pesidents Day

Took the boys to 'Build-a-Bear'this morning at the mall. They get to choose a bear, stuff it, make a wish on a heart and put it inside, put a sound in and fluff it up and dress it. Then they name it and get a birth certificate. They loved it! Especially Alex, the big kid!!
Did some shopping at the mall for Mr. Smith and the boys. They need new clothes for school. Got a JC Penney card sorted!
Stopped off at Publix on the way home. It's like Sainburys whereas Kroger is like Asda. We are just going to cook a chicken dinner at home tonight. I think Publix will be my place to shop now. It's big and clean and lovely! And I can get crusty bakery bread that the boys like cos it's almost the same as what we get at home!
Had dinner, played some games with the kids, and went to bed. Keep trying to watch 'Heroes' but I really can't follow it.

Jordie woke up in the night throwing up. Bless him, if anyone will get a tummy bug in this family it's him.

quick question!

Quick question. Why oh why do chips, sorry... fries, taste so nice?!

Still Sunday - Alcohol abuse!

Still Sunday.
I can't believe it. Mr. Smith has put me in the bloody bible belt!! And you can't buy any alcohol on a Sunday!! Now thats what I call alcohol abuse! Especially when you finished your last glass of Pinot on the evening before. Went to "Wild Wings" for dinner. The Daytona 500 was on today and Wild Wings had it on every TV screen. Luckily you can have wine in a restaurant on a Sunday so had a small glass there. Watched or rather tearily-eyed- snuffled my way through Extreme Makeover Home Edition. Time for a bath and bed I think.

Weekend 17th and 18th February

Saturday.
We were going to go to the Columbia Zoo today but it was a bit cold for walking about so we went to Fort Discovery, the science Museum instead. It was really good, full of experiments and games. The kids had a ball. And actually so did the grown ups!! We stayed there for hours, had lunch. I finally had a shrimp po boy. Big fried shrimp bagette with sauce and salad. Bearing in mind most of the time American shrimp is what we in England call king prawn!
Had quick trip to Wal-mart and then out to Evans, out to the house where Dennis's wife Vicky met us and we showed Mimi the house. The boys love this house, and every time I see it I like it more.
Didn't go out for dinner, everyone was too tired and we had had a big lunch, just cooked in apartment and watched 'Cheaper by the Dozen', and I went to sleep and left everyone to it.

Sunday.
Hung out this morning with Ethan, while Mr. Smith took Mimi and the other two boys out for lunch. Really can't be bothered to keep eating out all the time. Mimi then took the boys to the movies to watch "Flushed Away" and Mr. Smith and I started the furniture hunt. There is a really cool place called "Rooms to Go". You can pick out the whole room they have set up and take it for one price, including tables and lamps. It's like all you eat, but it's all you can seat ha ha ha ha ha ! God, my jokes are getting worse. Had quick latte in books-a-million then came home for a rest!

Mimi's arrival

Had a slow day, waiting for Mimi's arrival. She left home in Alabama at about seven this morning and got here about three pm. The boys were well excited! We had a trip to the mall, again, for Mr smith to get work clothes - after 20 years of being in uniform. And then Mimi arrived. She bought some lovely presents, and some old games that Mr Smith and his brothers used to play. They are great We went to TGI Friday's for dinner. Bit slow but nice food. Kids getting complaints from neighbours because of big remote trucks Mimi bought them as gifts. Mimi!!!!

Photo link to my leaving do

House day.

Went and got Mr Smith and the boys all a haircut this morning. I think we should of got a family discount! Although to be fair there was a special on and they only cost three pond each! Went across to Wal-Mart after and saw an offer for photos of the kids. Three pounds for a package twice the size of the school ones we got in England. Come on Asda, get the photo shop up and going. It's unbelievable.
Had an appointment with our mortgage broker at half three so went home for a bit, and had a chat on line with Stevie Cat in Lanzarote. My baby! I miss the rock and the cat!
Heard from Dennis that our offer got accepted and so now we have a house. Now we have to start getting furniture.
The boys can start school in that area now cos we have a contract and so we will be visiting their schools next Tuesday. Today and Monday are public holidays here.
Mimi is arriving tomorrow, the boys can't wait!

Ice cream treat!

Gosh, it's all so American. Mr. Smith has taken the boys out after dinner for ice cream!
Personally I really don't want ice cream at 8 o clock at night so I'm staying in for a bath.
Had another long day looking at houses with Dennis and put a contract in on one in a new purpose built suburb called Riverwood Plantation. There is a pool and pool house just for residents and three great schools just in walking distance. It's not the two storey house I wanted (went out early this morning just to look at one I wanted and the painters that were there said we could go in. Gorgeous - five bed, three bath, massive garden and millions of windows so really light but no pool and different schools.) I'm hoping the kids will enjoy the community life where we ended up picking . There is a club house where they hold functions and open air movie nights for the kids. Everyone there should go to the same schools, and I'm quite impressed that it is the only suburb I have seen with sidewalks. Sorry, pavements. There is a big lake for fishing too. I hope it's the right move.
Spoke to Mimi. She will be coming Friday for a week. We can't wait. I am rather blessed with in-laws, if I say so myself.
If you want you can look at the house and sub division at www.riverwoodplantation.com, click on neighbourhoods and then click on Middleton. That is our sub division.
If not I will try and get photos soon. Off for a bath

Photo link

Apparently some of you are having problems looking at the photos. Don't know why but I will put a link on later to all the photos!

Remember?

Gosh I hope someone remembers that advert or I will look a complete plonker!

BT - It's good to talk.

I remember in the eighties, I think, an advert on t.v. that has stayed with me ever since, and I really don't know why.
A Gran-like person looking at the clock, and seeing it was late, makes herself a cup of cocoa and settles in a chair, looking at her phone.
On the opposite side of the world a little boy, in America, perhaps about seven or eight ends his school day to the sound of a school bell, and runs for his bus.
Advert cuts back to old lady , alone and watching clock.
Cuts back to boy getting off bus and running home.
Cuts now to Gran, looking at clock and saying "oh" and picking up and dialing a number.
Cuts back to little boy running up his drive and you hear his phone ringing.
And Gran is sitting with her phone pressed against her ear.
Boy runs into house and grabs phone,
Gran says "Hello Billy"
Billy says "Hello Granma"
For some reason that advert has stuck with me forever, I always thought it was so impossibly sad. I think it was part of B.T.s "it's good to talk" campaign.
Sadly now I realise that is what it will be like with my children and their nanny and grandad.

Tornado Watch!!

Spent the day still looking for houses, we seem to have narrowed it down to two or three. It seems like there are hundreds but if you want a back garden for the kids, then your choice narrows to but a few. They are still all gorgeous houses though. We met Dennis who had kindly driven through many suburbs we were looking at, early this morning and checked out the back garden situation and eliminated loads for us.
Torn now between (my choice)older but lovely house with established neighbourhood and tree house in garden, two story and in a cul de sac, but boys take the school bus ( yes! one of those yellow ones you see on all the movies!!) and a very nice, just built, in a fantastic friendly community in walking distance to the boys schools, just on edge on main road (Mr. Smiths choice) and one complete wild card house, but with a nice flat yard!
It's hard because, as in England it all revolves around the schools, but also communities offer swimming pool, tennis courts etc.
Dennis took us for a mexican lunch, it was absolutely lovely. We didn't feel like going out for dinner so planned to stay in and cook again, but then take boys to the movies ( cinema- or if your as old as me, 'pictures')! Unfortunately a big storm has arrived, thunder and lightening- the lot and we are on "Tornado Watch"!! Apparently nothing to worry about. But I have found out that just in case a tornado strikes we have to get into the windowless closet. going to put medical kit, blankets, pillows, food and drink, amd wine in there, just in case!! oh, and a plastic cup for the wine! Don't want to let myself down and be seen drinking out of the bottle!!

Monday- 70 degrees?! House Hunting.

Mr. Smith rang his new company and the lady repsonsible for NOT leaving the keys out for our apartment when we arrived Friday night! (Did I mention that?)she had forgotten and very apologetically bought round restaurant vouchers for us all to have dinner at TGI Fridays and knocked the price of our last nights stay. God they are good here at customer service. Everyone we have encountered has been super and so polite, from offices, stores and restaurants. And everyone loves the accents! The kids and I get extra special service everywhere we go! and of course I LOVE it, don't I?!
Mr. Smith then contacted our real estate man who shall from now on be called Dennis. What a lovely man! Dennis came and met us, took us to his office, got 117 house listings and then took us all out for lunch. A realtor who takes you out to lunch!! More salads, pasta, pizza buffet at Stevie's Pizza. or something like that. Its just so quick for the kids its amazing. Had a teary moment when Dennis was asking about my family and the move. But you can tell he is a family man, and he is very kind.
Had texts today from Kirsty, Noelle, Maria, Tracy, Dad and yesterday from most of those plus Carol, Jen and emails from Jane, Claire, Martyn, Shaz, and Nat. Going to have to stop listing soon, in case I hurt anyones feelings by leaving them out!
I'm just so touched everyone is keeping in touch. Thank you!
Shaz had told me yesterday that Dave's funeral will be next week. I'm so sad not to be there. It seems lots of people are going and there will be a bus organised. I can't believe he has gone, and i'm truely gutted not to be going to his goodbye with friends like Daz and Freddy. It's horrible to be away at times like this.

Spent the afternoon driving around basically eliminating houses, mainly because the gardens were too small or non existant. You can get a beautiful house, 4 bedroom+, here for about 100 thousand pounds, but many are very new with very small gardens. Might have to drop my original wishes and have something a little bit older.
Had to stop. I had dressed for winter in long sleeves and jeans and suddenly after lunch it was 72 degrees! In february!
Came home and cooked chicken and salad again. it's easy to eat out but its getting very fattening, so I have decided either lunch or dinner out. NOT both! Button undone on jeans as we speak. Or rather as I type! And not in a sexy-hot-sex kitten type of way!!
Boys out playing basketball again with their new friend Chad, who is staying at these apartments. We met him yesterday at the basketball court and later on he knocked for the boys to go out again and play. What a moment! Two days here and someone knocking on for the boys!
Rang Mum and Dad, bloody skype phone sounds like your talking out of a dustbin. It's lovely to speak to them, and lovely to hear Mum and Noelle are keeping in touch.
Mr. Smith has just taken Alex out for his new shoes and I'm actually doing this on the day!
Yet again another early night in preparation for more house hunting tomorrow. God, I'm getting so boring, all these normal early nights. No more late nights at the bar, no more cheekys, no more partying! I am but a shadow of my former self. except in my jean size!! Diet starts tomorrow.

ok, couldn't resist enlarging this one of my gorgeous boys!

First day in months with nothing to do! Wonderful. 60 degrees

Finally. A day with absolutely nothing we HAVE to do! Bliss. Text Lannie, and Grandaddy and Uncle Scooter called. Grandaddy and Buffy are coming to visit the weekend after.(Mr. Smith's dad and his girlfriend. Mimi is Mr. Smith's mum)
Going to buy boys a basketball later and go to the basketball courts. Just sitting watching "Open Season" with the boys. Going to try and load up photos of leaving do in a bit.
Mr. Smith, Jordan and Ethan bought new trainers. Note to self - trainer in America is a young girl's training bra!
Went to 'Souper Salad' for lunch. Brilliant idea for a restaurant. Buffet salad bar with added pasta, pizza, jacket potatoes, soup, fruit + ice cream counter. No waiting. one price. pay at the beginning and eat all you can. Sunday lunch kids eat for one pound!! Note to self - just because it is there doesn't mean you have to eat it!! Jeans already getting tight!
Came home, watched "the Wild" or at least the kids did. I went to bed early.

Day one in Georgia - 55 degrees

Woke up this morning. Its real. We are here. The apartment is HUGE! The utility room is bigger than some of our bedrooms in our old house (which I keep calling home!) We have to go through a gate to get in with a card, so the boys still think its like Digby. There is a gym- I WILL go there. Soon. And a lovely looking pool, but it is outdoors so we are not that keen.
Finally managed to get hold of Ged and Noelle by text with Mr. Smith's phone and they called and passed on number to Mum and Dad who called too. It's great to speak to them.
The boys are so excited. They are going to have their first big breakfast in America, in....Dennys. Only when we get there there is a long queue and also a long queue in waffle house and another waffle house, until we find one where we can at least get in the door to wait. Hash browns and scrambled eggs later we set out to sort out my mobile. I feel like half of me has been left behind and I swear my hand is twitching!
Went to Target and bought the most important essentials. New hair dryer and hair straighteners!! I am complete.
Bought a charger and visited the mall! Again great excitement for the boys! Although I'm still turned upside down about this move the boys are loving every minute. They embrace everything new and are looking forward to just "getting on with it" I'm very proud of them. The only time a shadow crosses their face is missing Nanny and Grandad. But somehow they have the impression that they will be coming out to live here with us!
Mimi called and so did Uncle Chris and Leeann. Its great to speak to family and they are all coming to visit. Mimi is coming next week, and Mr. Smith's brothers, Uncle Chris and uncle Scooter are going to come and help move in when our furniture and stuff arrive from England.
Gutted! Phone charger won't work! Back to square one.
We went back to the apartment, and I finally did my hair.
Off to visit our friends that live here and their three children. He was Mr Smith's best man and as his girlfriend then, she also attended our wedding. It's only been a few days but the boys are really missing playing with other kids. Within seconds they were all playing like they had known each other for years. Kids are wonderful. It was the same with the grown ups. It felt like we saw each other only last week. instead of seven years ago! Ordered pizza and Mr Smith and pal went to pick it up. It was the biggest pizza we had ever seen!!!! Like the steering wheel of a juggernaut!
Thinking it was about 9 o clock looked at the clock. Time for home and bed! It was quarter to eleven. Time flies when your having fun!

Last Day in England

Our last day in the UK. I didn't need an alarm clock to wake up. I don't think I slept at all. I can't believe this day has come. To be honest I'm just a bag of nerves. Everything upsets me and everything makes me cry.
Why is everyone else such a sensible traveler? There they are with their sensible shoes and clothes and fresh looking faces, and there I am, trundelling suitcases down the street at 4am in the ice with my high heels and lip gloss on. Still got the lip gloss on girls!!
Caught the shuttle at 4.15am, poor Jordan was travel sick, and eventually everyone nodded off back to sleep. Awoke just as we were going over the Dartford Bridge. Instantly reminded of going down to Mum and Dad's. More tears!
It's even harder going from Gatwick. There is a kind of anonymous aspect going to a large airport for a flight. You could be in any airport anywhere usually, but Gatwick is around the area where I grew up and to go there is like going home. It makes it worse to go there just to leave.
Still haven't taken off mum's wedding ring. Every time I look down at it, I see her hands. The hands that held me as a baby, the hands that picked me up when I fell, and the hands that just a few days ago were pouring us our last glass of wine together for a long time.
Ged and Noelle rang. Bloody contact lenses!!
Arrived on time and had to catch the train to the south terminal. Gatwick was running on time, our flight wasn't delayed and check in was short and sweet.
Spent the next few hours on the phone or texting. Carol, Lannie, Ged , Noelle, Mum, Dad, Kirsty, Darren. Everyone wishing us well. Had a teary phone call in the queue of WH Smith with Dad.I hate goodbyes.
Kirst couldn't make it to the airport before we had to go through so we never had our goodbye. But we both know we will always be in each other's hearts. Was getting ready to go to the gate when The Cat rang. Steviecat wants us to go out and live with him in Lanzarote. God, I'm going to miss everyone.
The flight went well and without incident. Arrived safe in Charlotte, North Carolina and caught our connecting flight to Augusta. Managed to check email finally. Great news - Daz and Sharron have got engaged! Congratulations.
But shock! Horror! Double shock horror!! My mobile is not working! Devastated!
By the time we got the hire car and drove to Masters Glen Apartments, and finally got into the apartment, the boys were flagging! Had takeaway for dinner and crawled into bed 23 hours since getting up in England this morning.
"Welcome home" the man at passport control said.

Leaving day from Digby

Woke up to reports of snow, and Gatwick runway being closed. It wasn't snowing in Lincoln but looked like it was about to. Tidied up the contact house and packed up the car and left as soon as possible. John and Tracy came round to say goodbye.
Alex said, "Isnt it funny how everyone is wearing contacts these days?" Very smart, Alex!!
The drive to Lakenheath was ok, bit slow but the weather was not too bad. Snowed steadily but didn't settle. It helped a bit to worry about the weather actually, it stopped me worrying about leaving Digby for the last time. People moan about Digby sometimes but I have always enjoyed it, and have met some of the most special people in my life there.
Arrived at Lakenheath and left suitcases at reception, while I finally got my retiree ID card and Alex got his first Id card!! He was very impressed with this and I had to get him a lanyard immediately so he could display it!
Mr Smith went off to get the car shipped and I took the boys to lunch.
The room was ready so we moved in. The boys made me laugh when they remembered how last time we stayed down there we has Sophie, but didn't realise no pets were allowed. So we smuggled her in!! Don't ask how we managed to smuggle an 80lb lab with a gimpy leg up two flight of stairs along a corridor to a room without being seen!! and managed all the toilet trips back down again! I really couldn't tell you.
Went the the club for dinner, then back for an early night.
Mr Smith let slip he had forgotten to book children's meals or a vegetarian meal for the nine hour flight! At this stage the conversation becomes x rated!!
Not as bad though as when Mr Smith informed me that we had to get up at 3am the next morning to get the shuttle bus to Gatwick! yes!! 3am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's what time I usually get in! What's going on? It's a world gone mad!!

Wednesday 07 Feb

Finalised last bank bits and closed Jump Shoes. Has another lunch with my friend. Getting to be a bit of an expert on pub lunches! I tried to get to the hospital to see Laura, Andy and baby Mark. Unfortunately time is running out and stress is running up. I think it's finally hitting me I'm going. Having a bit of a wobble!!
Jen popped round with Sam and I gave him his present. Joseph had spent the afternoon with us cos he came home from school sick, then Mr. Smith picked up Jamie and Matthew. Andy popped round to pick them up, gave them their presents, more goodbyes!! Nipped in to see Tracy and John, they are going to pop back in the morning.
Last night dinner with Ged and Noelle, Calum and Conor. We went to Mill Lodge and had an emotional meal. I spent most of it wiping Ged's tears!! He said it was his contact lenses, I said it was mine, Noelle said it was hers!! Funny, I don't wear them!! nor does she! It still feels so unreal. We popped back to the contact house for a last drink and said our final goodbyes. It really was terrible. I can feel the hole in our lives already. As Ged would say, who will he buy coffee, tea bags and milk for now. We had the only household where if you came to visit you had to bring your own supplies!!
Had some lovely wishes by text, and yes we will keep in touch with you all.

lovely night.Went to Brown's pie Shop for Gaynor's birthday. keep checking the boys are ok. Mr. Smith said they had a great time at the football, but are now fast asleep on the train. waiting to put them into bed safely.

Spent the morning in hospital

Spent the morning in hospital with Alex. His shoulder that he had hurt was still killing him so we went to the doctor who told us to go to A and E for an x ray.Only, after an hour and half in A and E we were told we didn't need an x ray!! Hopefully in a few days he will be ok.
Mr. Smith went down into town to buy another suitcase!
Heard great news this morning. Laura and Andy had a bouncing baby boy called Mark Ethan last night about half seven.. I won't go into details without their permission, but I believe they are both doing well now.
Ged popped round forgetting that Mr. Smith took Ethan and Alex to the Arsenal Stadium in London to watch Portugal versus Brazil. Jordan stayed with me. Later though I'm off to a surprise 40th (obviously can't say whose yet! ) Hope it works out to be a total surprise.
Lannie text, we still can't believe it is happening. Hasn't hit us yet!

I didn't do last nights blog cos Noelle came round and we had a look at all the packing to be done. I had had a lovely afternoon having lunch with a friend, after a morning of getting the appliances from Feltwell picked up and Mr. Smith getting the car valeted ready for shipping. Apparently they said it was minging!! I really don't know what they mean!!!

Sunday

Woke up far too early!! Dad went to mass and the rest of us just hung around the dining room table, till it was time for Danny and Donna to leave. More tears! but they have promised again to come out and see us. Had lunch and a glass of vino then really it couldn't be put off any longer. .Mum gave me her original wedding ring to wear and think of her. Thank you Mum, I will treasure it forever. My parents are truely fantastic and are always thinking of the boys and us. It breaks my heart to leave them, and saddens me they wont see the boys very often. Hurry over and visit!!
Mr Smith is going over to the club for the superbowl. Think I will get some sleep.

Saturday

Off to Mum and Dad's for the night. Had to drop Lannie off in Sleaford and stopped at the market place and had a sad goodbye. She was off to meet Danny and have a day of pampering for her birthday. More tears!
Got to Mum and Dad's in good time. Danny and Donna were already there and before long Cindy, Steve, Rosie and Brad turned up. Cindy and Mum really wanted to meet and as they only live 45 mins apart we had arranged for them to come over to mum's. We had the most beautiful weather. We sat on the patio drinking wine, well, me, Cind, Mum and Donna did! It seemed to be an unwritten rule that the men were doing all the driving! We all went off to Broadstairs for lunch and a walk along the beach. The kids all had a ball! but all good things come to an end and we finally had to say goodbye to Cind and the gang. I expect your thinking by now I couldn't possibly cry anymore. WRONG!!!
Dinner at seven at our favourite restaurant in Broadstairs now. As usual the food in the Tartar Frigate was wonderful. A strangely empty chair in the middle of the table was soon filled with my other brother, Stephen. It was a lovely meal and a lovely family night.
Back to Mum and Dad's then goodbye to Steve, and hallo to Natalie, Mum's next door neighbour, who just happened to bring over the champagne! Cant remember going to bed. Good one Nat!!

The Last Weekend

Friday - had no time for a snooze. Had to go to Tedder School to pick the boys up on their last day and collect all their work and files to take to their new school. Its strange to think they won't go to that little school anymore. Alex's entire school life has been in a school of on average 100 children!
Gave the boys their last British fish and chips and we had our last Friday night at the club. Got some more calendar photos!! Jen, Mark and Sam came up. Lannie and I had some moments!! Christine and Howard, er sorry....Tony came up and gave me a lovely card I will keep for ever! Marina and Howard will ride again, someday! Thank you both and thank you Helen for all your hard work.Andy, Liz and the boys came up and we got some lovely photos. Had a chat with Paul then came home.
It had gone midnight so said Happy Birthday to Lannie and gave her her pressie. Time to sleep I think.
Had some awful news tonight about the very sad death of one of our friends at Digby. Dave, who had been posted to Cyprus. He has been killed today in an accident. Dave was one of the nicest young guys you could ever meet. Always friendly, always polite and utterly lovely. I used to call him my eye candy! I remember the first day he came to Digby. It was a sunday afternoon and his parents had helped him move into the block, and they all came to the bar. You may of gathered I'm big on family, and I thought it lovely they had helped him move in. Its so bloody sad that such a wonderful young man could be gone.

haven't written for a few days. It's just been manic! and a bit sad. I left preschool on Wednesday. It was very emotional saying goodbye to all the children and especially the girls I work with. Linda came and I finished up all I need to do before I leave so I can now finish the rest of my nvq by email. Had a sandwich with the girls then left for the last time. They got a lovely card and bracelet for me. more tears!
Last night working the bar. It was very weird ringing the bell and calling last orders for the last time. Had a few cheekys with Kenny.
First day as a lady of leisure. Except as usual there was lots of running around to do.first visit of the day to Lincoln.lots of shopping. home to sort out last minute hold baggage. Quick sleep, then back to Lincoln to get Lannie at the train station!
It was lovely to see her and within a second we felt like we only saw each other yesterday and were never apart!
We had a couple of cheekys and then went out for the leaving drinks!Camera in hand, need to get my calendar sorted! Boys, you are all beautiful and I will let you see my finished product! Will be posting your georgeous photos on this blog later!
More tears when Stu gave me my present and card. God will these tears ever stop! I had a lovely night. It was CO's Cup quiz night so it was nice and busy. Jenny, Tina, and Daz did a grand job behind the bar! Ang came up too, it was lovely to see her. Ang I will wear my rugby shirt with pride. It's so unbelievable that I'm leaving all these lovely people. To be fair the night is a bit of a blur. Must be something I ate!!!
Hence today Lannie and I are crawling around on a go slow, fumbling our way to visit Tracy at the bar for a coffee, then the three of us had lunch at the coffee shop. Jen bought my presents around, it was nice to see what they had given me, as I couldnt remember a thing from last night!!! really now, it MUST of been something I ate! Think I need a coffee and a little snooze!
